SUP Cabarete Hurricane Season Update

Issac was a kite storm

When Hurricanes go to the South side of the Dominican Republic, the North Coast gets windy. This was the case with Hurricane Issac. Issac threw off one good SUP day and four excellent kite days. Maui John won the day and the storm.

Leslie Was Sweet

Cabarete was in the Lee side of the storm the entire time. This means that we got all the surf and offshore winds. Leslie threw some fantastic swell for 5 out of 7 days. Mcloven took one day, Goodwin took one day and Maui John 3 days and the storm.

Kirk was Cool

Kirk threw three days of morning surf, the storm was a bit too far away from Cabarete to block the wind, but  he gave us some nice ridable surf. This storm did not meet our minimum standards to score

Nadine is hanging out
There is very little reef and land between Europe and the North Coast of the Dominican Republic, this means that there is nothing to block the swell. Swell keeps rolling until it hits reef or land. So even though this storm is far away, Cabarete is experiencing excellent action 2-3 foot over head.
Maui John Leads this storm 2 days to 0 over Mcloven with new comer Iguana Mama Micheal coming on strong.

Trades are back, swell keeps rolling in

Hurricane Leslie has moved off but the swell she generated is still hitting the Cabarete's North Shore.
Fortunately, swell keeps going until it hits reef or beach...

Kite Beach Trade Winds are back  and there is swell which makes for All Time Kite action after a week of excellent SUP only wave action. look for 20 knot side shore winds with quality surf through the weekend.

Wow...Leslie was very very good for SUP Cabarete. The storm brought 8 days of interesting paddle boarding and spear fishing action. Most of the mornings had perfect water conditions, two or three of the days we had small glassy surf and quality spear fishing. The rest of the days Cabarete had world class SUP, paddle boarding. Light off shore winds helped clean up the surf, held the waves up longer, as well as making for all time wave riding action. "...probably the most ridable surf Cabarete has had in a long time" says SUP Coach, John Holzhall "...the winds were perfect almost everyday...channels were wide open and the swell kept rolling in...day 7 and 8 were great!" says Maui John

Hurricane Leslie hangs around

Hurricane Leslie basically stalled right in the middle of the Bermuda Triangle.

This storm through a nice swell towards the Carribean, Florida and Bermuda for a week.  Looks like the swell will be gone manana, but certainly good waves now. All in all, this was a great SUP week for Cabarete.

Maui John got the best of this storm it with Glenn Goodwin a close second.
