SUP Beach Dominican Republic Guidelines

Another Great Wave Spot (Enquentro) has been closed to Paddle Boarders...why?
1. Hurt feelings in the "pack" on the "peak".
2. Probably not the best place to paddle board.
3. Surf posse didn´t appreciate the SUP crowd.

The Enquentro SUP crew moved up to the Kite Beach, which they quickly realized is a much better set of  SUP Breaks.  So how to keep things cool on the SUP Break?
1. Understand the Map and give some Aloha to the people who produced the Map. A simple rule in SUP,  if you don´t understand the map,  take a lesson. This Map was created by methodlodge.com
2. Wave Count....if you catch all the waves you go for have fun challenging the pack at the peak. If someone doesn´t like it, too bad.  If you catch half the waves you go for move closer to the channel until you get your wave count and percentage up. Once you are nailing everything feel free to hassle for the peak. If your percentage is low stay on the edge of the channel. This is the quickest way to get good. Most of all BE HONEST with yourself, keep count of the waves you are going for and the ones you caught. This alone will make you a better wave rider.

Big Surf for Kite Beach Cabarete

The SUP Cup is on for Kite Beach Cabarete...the swell hit last night near Sunset and a visiting group of Israeli Watermen were on it. This morning brought Huge Glassy Surf, at least 2 guys made it out...1 Israeli Junior Champion and Method John .
The groms from Israel are next level with micro boards and paddles perfectly suited to their size and skill level and they are RIPPING...in fact, they are so next level that when I watch them, I doubt the future of Lay Down Paddling. It is very clear that the Paddle is the future for kids.

Super Surf for kite Beach Cabarete

Big Wave Action is here...it always seems that NFL Super Bowl Weekend brings Classic Big Wave Action, Rain and Cool Temps. This year is no different...surf is pounding, rain is failing and the Super Parties are coming together. I know a lot of beach goers don´t care for this type of weather, but hey...it´s freaking hot in the tropics and generally flat surf so this is a time of celebration for year round residents. Cool, Rainy, Big Surf, and good parties!

hmmm...Quality Surf for Kite Beach Cabarete

Slow lift...this big Low Pressure System (white n blue in color) is slowly lifting North West which gives Kite Beach Cabarete small flat waves, light rain, cloud cover and  AC like temperatures. The Swell (amber in color) is just hitting Havana now and is a day away from hitting Kite Beach Cabarete. The Swell (Amber color) seems to have more West that North in it which does not work so well for us here on Kite Beach Cabarete because Cuba, Florida and the Bahamas catch or block most of the swell moving West to East. The good news is that there should be a nice swell Thursday Morning with lite winds...so let´s paddle Kite Beach Cabarete

How to make a paddle board turn

Wana make a Paddle or Surf board turn? Step back! Stability comes from a wide stance, a turny board comes from a narrow stance. Most wave riders can move the back foot back, but struggle to slide the front foot back...if you want to make a board turn...get the front foot back

Wow...Leslie was very very good for SUP Cabarete. The storm brought 8 days of interesting paddle boarding and spear fishing action. Most of the mornings had perfect water conditions, two or three of the days we had small glassy surf and quality spear fishing. The rest of the days Cabarete had world class SUP, paddle boarding. Light off shore winds helped clean up the surf, held the waves up longer, as well as making for all time wave riding action. "...probably the most ridable surf Cabarete has had in a long time" says SUP Coach, John Holzhall "...the winds were perfect almost everyday...channels were wide open and the swell kept rolling in...day 7 and 8 were great!" says Maui John

SUP Hurricane Season 2012, Kite Beach cabarete, How to SUP

Kite Beach Living, an interview with SUP and Kite Board Coach, Maui John, about 2012 Hurricane Season for Kite Beach and the North Coast of the Dominican Republic.

Hurricane Season 2012 wave predictions, SUP, Paddleboarding, Cabarete, Dominican Republic

Q. What is your surf forecast for 2012?
A. I just came in from a nice session off a Tropical Wave  . It's was an early wave and i'm looking for an all time SUP 2012 Hurricane Season.

Q. Most of the Hurricane Experts are calling for a mild Hurricane Season, but not you?
A. Ya, there is a big difference between a good surfable swell and a Named Storm. See those guys don't care about the Tropical Wave we just surfed this morning. To them it almost does not exist, to those who crave the wave, these type swells are very important. Look for a lot of surfable swell in 2012 Hurricane Season.

Q. I see, 5 Tropical Waves could be better that one Hurricane that hits the coast.
 A. Ya, more times then not a Named Storm close by does not throw Sup or Surf waves without a lot of wind.

Q. So what are you calling for?
A. A lot of Tropical Storms and Waves, consistent easterly Swell making for quality SUP, Paddle Board waves.

Q. Why do you think this?
A. Heat is gonna be the thing this season...already it's hot and already there is good movement from Africa to through the Dominican Republic.
